Biography

Nelson LeDuc likes to say there are two kinds of music he loves: music that makes him feel, and music that makes him think. The best music, in his view, does both.

Music has been central to Nelson’s life since he picked up the clarinet at age seven. Over the years, he has played bass in numerous bands and sung professionally for over 36 years. Whether performing or composing, his passion lies in exploring the emotional and intellectual depth of music.

As a vocalist, Nelson strives to bring out the full expressive potential of a composer’s work—its form, melody, and emotional resonance. As a composer, he aims to create music that invites both emotional engagement and thoughtful reflection. Much of his work is vocal music, often shaped by a deep sensitivity to the meaning of the text and how music can illuminate it.

Nelson’s creative inspirations are wide-ranging, drawing from literary sources as well as numerical and mathematical concepts, modal scales and their inversions, and pitch class theory. He is particularly interested in exploring the intersection of progressive rock and classical music—a space where complexity, innovation, and feeling converge.
